Ten years ago this summer, I took a fantastic driving tour of Maine, Vacationland, as a reward for surviving two years of graduate school in the Nation’s capital. It was the first “great” road trip for which I wasn’t planning to meet anyone. It was exploration, pure and simple.
My plan was to follow the Maine coast, photographing light houses and discovering interesting places. This is Wood Island Light, as seen from the East Point Sanctuary at Biddeford Pool. The sanctuary is managed by the Audubon Society, and it offers great paths for strolling and a fine view across Wood Island Harbor to the light.
