Riverside Geyser is Yellowstone National Park's most predictable geyser. An arc of water forms from several jets and shoots 75 feet above the Firehole River for 20 minutes at a time. With the right angle, one or more rainbows will be formed by the falling mist. The geyser also marks a sort of boundary betwen areas burned in the forest fires of 1988 and unburned lodegpole pines, as seen to the left. Despite its predictability and beauty, Riverside Geyser is seen by far fewer people than Old Faithful, probably because viewing Riverside Geyser requires a mile or so of walking.
